❀The Venerable Abbot Setchō Jūken once said in verse:
It is easy to speak while high up a tree,
It is hard to speak while beneath a tree,
This old monk has climbed that tree,
So come on, ask your question!

Borders: Pop-Up Dinner is a developing conceptual event that explores the fusion and diffusion of borders and the migration of people, ideas, visuals, food, and culture through the palate, the cartography of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, and human diseases. Borders will have a curated menu of fruits, Southeast Asian inspired culinary dishes with herbs and ingredients focused on health benefits. We will also provide an altering taste experience for a limited number of participants through the use of a Miracle Fruit(Synsepalum dulcificum). There will be a cooking demonstration led by Mia Lahoz on how to make Black Chicken Herbal Soup. Borders guests are asked to bring their own soup bowl that reflects your family, or ancestry, or evokes a memory of a person or a place – and we will ask everyone to share their bowl stories as we share the soup. (Please note: there will be a vegetarian option as well.)
