Amanda Goldblatt: HARD MOUTH Book Launch
Amanda Goldblatt: HARD MOUTH Book Launch
Amanda Goldblatt's debut book, Hard Mouth, is an adventure novel upended by grief and propelled by the aberrant charm of its narrator, exploring what it takes to both existentially and literally survive. This event will celebrate the book’s launch with readings by Goldblatt and friends, featuring sound performances by Carol Genetti and Michael Vallera. Volumes Bookcafe will be selling the book during the event. Goldblatt’s stories and essays can be found at NOON, Fence, Diagram, and elsewhere. She was a 2018 National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow, and teaches creative writing at Northeastern Illinois University. She lives in Chicago.
Michael Vallera
Michael Vallera
Michael Vallera is a musician and photographer who lives and works in Chicago. Prolific as both a solo artist and collaborator, he has released albums under his own name and as COIN (Opal Tapes), with percussionist Steven Hess as Cleared (Immune Recordings), and with Joseph Clayton Mills as Maar (Umor Rex, Entr’acte). He sings and plays guitar in the experimental rock group Luggage (Don Giovanni Records). An MFA graduate of School of the Art Institute of Chicago, his work has been exhibited in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.

Carol Genetti
Carol Genetti
Carol Genetti is a Chicago-based vocalist whose work extends to sound and visual art media. Her palette is primordial, existing in a space where “language” and “music” have yet to be formed and formulated into familiar cultural patterns. Genetti’s aesthetic is one of raw power, yet also delicate, subtle, and precise. An exquisite soloist, she is often also heard in the company of other improvising musicians. On this occasion, Genetti plays no-input mixer and voice accompanied by pianist/proxy-violist Jim Baker.
