Max Bessesen Quartet
Max Bessesen is a performer and composer based in
Chicago, IL. His skills as a saxophonist and woodwind
doubler have taken him across five continents and earned
him awards from organizations including Downbeat
Magazine, and the Frank Huntington Beebe Fund. Max has
performed and recorded with artists as diverse as Dayna
Stephens, Simone Shaheen, and Isaac Slade (of The Fray)
among others. In this quartet he joins with Nathan
Friedman, Eric Krouse and Ethan Philion to explore new
formats for contemporary improvisations: Their debut album “Trouble”—to be released in 2019—features veteran Trumpeter Ron Miles and employs post- tonal harmonies, systematized rubato, and South Indian classical rhythms.
