Scotty is a musician playing music for people. I’ve seen Scotty's music make a lot of people cry. If you are a person who doesn’t mind a guy with a guitar making you cry and don't mind music that makes you cry, his live show won’t bother you and you will enjoy it as much as I do. It has made me both laugh and cry. If you look past his voice (which has the unique and striking quality of making people weep upon contact at times) his songs are not only heartbreaking but also very funny. When I first met him and saw him play in a garage (which was also his home at the time) in Long Beach, California, he didn’t like it there very much. I didn’t either. I’ve never been more thankful that someone was so clearly miserable. It was obvious to me at the time that he was becoming a better artist by the day because of it. I had a front row seat to see suffering mold art in a way that only sweeping thousands of tiny maggots away from entering the (garage) door of your home at 3am can provide after the neighbors hadn’t emptied their trash in months. After being inspired by him to start writing my own songs, I realized it is not self-imposition to misery that has made Scotty’s art so great but a dedication to his craft and hours of work at odds with circumstance. I now feel foolish for thinking it must’ve just been all the suffering. I am very.. very jealous of his voice. It is expressive and astonishing and I hope it lays you out flat like it does to me every single time I watch him play. I hope it boils you alive like gallons of searing hot bleach water dumped onto an invading army of teensy little unwanted larvae.

Devin Flower is a Chicago based musician and artist, best known for her ambient work formerly under the name Yarrow. Through the use of guitar, voice, nature sounds, vinyl, and a collection of found instruments, Devin creates ambient compositions which oscillate between drones, bedroom folk, loops, and noise. Once referred to as “the kind of music animist cultists might like”, Devin Flower aims to create soundscapes and songs which transport listeners from their urban day-to-day to a peaceful and ethereal nature state, where vulnerability is held above all else and gentleness is a radical act.
